“I’m just tryin’ to make you stay” – Eden Rain

It’s a family affair tonight as Eden Rain shares the stage with her brother on guitar and keyboards and her sister sharing backing vocal duties. We’re all made to feel welcome around the family kitchen table and treated to Eden’s naturally soulful voice.

She has previously said in interviews that she finds “inspiration in everything” and that definitely comes across. ‘Oh God’ is a brilliant feisty musical existential crisis (and this reviewer’s personal favourite – I can’t stop playing it) and ‘I’ve Hidden Your Passport’ is tender and heartbreaking. ‘Crashmat’ also has the hooks that suggest performing to a wider audience would not be a problem. Her scattergun approach to songwriting is refreshing in that respect – the themes dart around like dizzy goldfish.

Don’t sleep on her live performances: if she’s in your town, get your feet under the family kitchen table and prepare to be charmed.

“You want something infinite and want it in an instant” – Little Dog Star

Considering she announced on TikTok that this was her first gig, Izzy Steele AKA Little Dog Star brings a loyal following into Oslo – everyone glued to her performance and singing along with gusto. It’s easy to see/hear why she has such a following.

This Manchester transplant brings warm vocals and gentle humour into her story-telling (my notes say “Acoustic Taylor Swift ambling along the Ship Canal”). She has stories to tell, and she’ll draw you in to hear them.
