Hot Wife - photo by Miyuki Wang

An energetic night of post-punk at the Old Blue Last, headlined by self-described slacker rockers Hot Wife.

Jackie Sees Red opened up for the night, offering up quirky post punk with a strong riot grrrl influence.

As the room filled out, Cowboy Hunters took to the stage. Their beat-fuelled post hardcore was uniquely danceable, spurred on by explosive vocals and culminating in a reimagined rock cover of Princess Superstar‘s ‘Perfect’ – with an interlude in the middle for a dance break to ‘Cha Cha Slide’ and ‘The Macarena.’

With the crowd sufficiently hyped up, headliners Hot Wife launched into a frenzy of punk rock tracks that got the floor bouncing and heads banging. The set list included singles ‘buffy summers’ and ‘queen’ as well as an uptempo version of ‘Casual’ by Chappell Roan. The four-piece’s raucous, campy attitude was contrasted by down-to-Earth crowd interaction; in response to chants for “one more song”, they charmingly admit “we don’t have any more!”
