Austin band Stella and the Very Messed shares bold title track ‘Big Familiar’ from upcoming album Big Familiar, out 19 September via Double Helix Records.
Vocalist/lyricist Stella Maxwell and bassist/co-writer David Hawkins (both ex-Cruiserweight) with Chris Nine (Schatzi), Mohadev (Stop Motion Orchestra), and Sam Rich (Black Books) navigates identity, memory, and outgrowing your origins on Big Familiar, their most personal album to date.
Stella Maxwell shares the following about ‘Big Familiar’:
“‘Big Familiar’ is a sad song about my hometown. I have a strong aversion to most forms of nostalgia—even the good memories carry a kind of ache. I seem forgetful or unsentimental, but really I’m just avoiding the past. It’s about the guilt that comes with stepping back from crumbling family ties, even when it’s necessary for your own survival.”
Upcoming live dates:
25 July – Marfa, TX – Viva Big Bend Festival
26 July – Austin, TX – Hotel Vegas w/ Booher
31 August – Austin, TX – Ballroom Benefit for Louder Than Hate
