Australian-based Irish multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Bonniesongs has released her new single ‘Olive Oil’, a dreamy teaser for her upcoming sophomore album Strangest Feeling. Developing her ‘ethereal grunge’ sound, Bonniesongs blends elements of edgy 90s indie, dreamy psychedelic-pop and alt-folk for a taste of pure summer joy.
“I wrote ‘Olive Oil’ while visiting Wellington, New Zealand. I had recently started a game with friends where we list our top 5 favourite things. Olive oil, ocean, sunshine are some things that bring me joy. I wanted a happy, light-hearted song.” -Bonniesongs
Bonnie Stewart (aka Bonniesongs) began her music career as an improvised jazz drummer, and still performs in several bands around Sydney. Taking inspiration from 2000’s American indie band Deerhunter‘s track ‘Never Stops’, the drums for ‘Olive Oil’ create a thumping base for a song that is both edgy and uplifting.
Hazy, driving guitars pulse beneath Bonnie’s floating vocals; the charming lyrics of ‘Olive Oil’ are a sunny reminder of simple pleasures and the nourishing joy of nature and it’s products.
Add ‘Olive Oil’ to your summer playlists, enjoy on sunny road trips and get ready for the release of Bonniesongs’ album Strangest Feeling on 25th July via Impressed Recordings.
