Manchester-based indie-pop artist Beth McKenzie shares new single/video, ‘Inside Out’ – the final preview of debut EP Does This Make Me A Bitter Woman?, out this Friday. McKensize’s songwriting elevates to the next level with her painfully honest lyrics and captures the feeling of rage and disappointment.
“‘Inside Out’ was written about the aftermath of a sexual assault and the way I felt betrayed by multiple people throughout the investigations that took place in the weeks that followed.

For this reason, the majority of the video is set in an interrogation room. I knew immediately that this is what I wanted, it perfectly represents what happened, the mistreatment I felt from the people around me & the resulting internal conflict.
This project was really difficult for me – even before the day we shot it. I was revisiting events and emotions I hadn’t in a while and it definitely took a toll on my mental health. However, this song and video was my choice, I chose to write and create everything around it, so in a way, the whole experience has been empowering.
While the song is incredibly important to me the way it is, it is still quite metaphorical. It leaves the meaning of the song open to interpretation, which is great – I want people to be able to find their own meaning in my songs.”
