After a 13-year hiatus, Kittie has returned with a string of new singles, and an album announced for later this year.
‘We Are Shadows’ is a song of acceptance amongst uncertainty, with frontwoman Morgan Lander explaining:
“We have come to a critical place in life and in our world, and much like an eclipse over taking the sun, we are losing the light… It is not a song of hope however, it’s a song of coming to terms with the damage we do and acceptance of our fate. We’ve let darkness take hold, and so we are resolved to fade in the night with it.”
It’s clear that Kittie hasn’t lost any of the elements that make them such a great band. Morgan’s vocals are, as always, a standout feature. This track showcases her clean vocals, and the range she has as a singer, especially as she belts out the songs soaring chorus with such ease.
I think, through no fault of their own, a lot of people only know Kittie from their first two albums, so don’t realise just how far Kittie has come as a band. This new era of Kittie will surely cement the bands status as metal icons, and I can’t wait to see where they go next. Their new album, Fire, is out later this month – you can pre-order it here.
