Sheffield-based riot grrrl punks Skint Knees have released their second EP, Bite Back.

The EP opens with ‘Modern Prometheus’, a perfect display of the bands songwriting abilities. They go seamlessly from dark and foreboding to fast and catchy punk, with Skunk and Jinx’s unwavering vocals demanding your attention throughout.

Skint Knees are unashamedly inspired by riot grrrl, and it shows itself in the best possible way. Their lyrics are in-your-face and political, while they simultaneously give off a vibe of being the girl gang best friends of your dreams.

‘Cheerleader’ in particular brings to mind the sing-song vocals of early Bratmobile, while musically sounding like a punkier L7. The end result is a sound that is very much their own.

Despite being only six songs, this EP does a fantastic job of showing who Skint Knees are, and what they’re capable of. Each song brings something different, and I’m left wondering how long I have to wait to hear even more.

Skint Knees will be holding a launch party in Sheffield on May 31st. The event is organised by the band themselves, and features an all female/non binary line-up. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in that area! Tickets can be found here.
