Fresh from their recent Slam Dunk Winter Jam Tour in January, genre-blending punks Millie Manders and The Shutup have a new double AA side 7” single, and it’s out now!
‘Angry Side’ is an explosive pop-punk track, brought to life by Millie’s powerful vocals, and I love the addition of horns. Millie describes the song as being
“a letter to my teenage self, apologising for being so angry and wanting to burn down the world. I had a lot going on back then and I hid behind bravado a lot.“
‘Can I Get Off?’ is my favourite of the two tracks, and is more of a straight-forward, political punk banger. It sees Millie address how the mainstream media, and much of the world, have stood by and watched while so many recent global atrocities have taken place. The chorus sees her specifically calling out white fragility, and the money that comes from siding with aggressors, and the role it plays in all of these incidents.
The band have also released a new range of t-shirts which, along with the 7”, will be sold to help raise funds for Mercy Without Limits.
