Today, 25 October, is the 1 year anniversary of Rishi Sunak becoming British Prime Minister – a fitting date then for the release of J3nna’s new single ‘Unelected Man’, voicing the struggles of being trans in the UK under our unelected, anti-trans leadership. Our #trackoftheday today.
J3nna is the solo project of 20-year-old London-based trans artist Jenna, originally from Bradford, a rising star in the indie and alternative rock scene. Of the new single, she says:
“‘Unelected Man’ is about my feelings being a trans person in the United Kingdom; being the victim of a culture war being created by our unelected leadership to try to skew votes from the public in a poor attempt to not lose the next election. It’s about how every trans person I know feels at the moment, unsafe, rationing our hormones in case legislation is passed that will take it from us, and angry at the fact that we are being persecuted by a supposed democratic government that we have had no say as the British Public into putting into power.”
On the recording, she says:
“Unelected Man, as all my songs, was recorded entirely by myself in my bedroom. Every instrument was written and played by myself as well as all the production, artwork, marketing, and anything that goes into releasing a song I do entirely by myself.”
