‘Trust No One,’ the latest release by BEX, is a boisterous and aggravated take on the brutality of the music industry. With lyrics such as ‘Do you feel ready for me? I swear I’m not the same‘ and ‘I trust no one/ I’m going solo just to get it done,’ the British artist acknowledges her faults, reclaims her sense of independence and urges others to do the same.
“The song presents the harsh truth of my short experience within the industry so far, holding my cards against my chest because you never know anyone’s next move,” BEX explains. “We all know the gatekeepers can be brutal, but I ended up finding out that your fellow musicians, the ones who are in the same boat as you, can end up being the worst. I very quickly found out who was in this race for the wrong reasons, craving fame and attention, ready to destroy anyone who is in their way. I started to become the same.”
The outspoken nature of the song fits well into BEX’s punk attitude, something that’s visually exaggerated in the accompanying video. Tartan, fishnets and thick dark makeup are intensified under harsh lighting and visual effects.
‘Trust No One’ follows ‘SPYD4 K1NG’ and ‘Don’t Date The Devil’ and is taken from her debut debut EP SCUM which is due out 27th October.
