The latest release by Newcastle-based Holly Rees is a rowdy and playful exclamation of the importance of communication. Entitled ‘Careless,’ it explores the frustration and incertitude that can come from listening to what people say and the miscommunication that can arise in both personal and political situations.
The chorus, the flowing direct complaint of ‘Yeah I wish that I could care less when you’re careless with your words/ But you either don’t care or you don’t hear that it hurts,’ introduces the song along with a crashing, punk-induced energy that continues throughout.
‘Careless’ follows ‘Missing Out (Again)’ and ‘English Bay’ and involves the queer artist and accompanying band intensifying the angsty aspect of their sound.
