Excited to bring you today the exclusive premiere of ‘Coconut Ice’, the cooler-than-cool new video from Rubber Rose.

A tasty blend of 90s stoner rock, goth/new wave and a jazztastic rhythm section, the song enjoyed a well-celebrated release back in March, even gracing the Radio 1 airwaves. The band tell us:

“This track is about feeling amazing to the point of mania and then horrendously depressed with no in between, neatly allegorized into the image of one of those little pink and white cakes because why not turn something scary into something pretty? And it’s for feeling fierce and determined regardless.”

“We made this music video at Doña, a beautiful ‘lady-led Shangri-La’  mezcal bar in North London, and Bricks Photostudio (owned by the brilliant Bricks Magazine) in Brixton. With the help of great friend and collaborator Sam Perry, who directed and filmed the project, we wanted to create a duality of worlds where the characters plug into a kind of hyperreality which is very fashionable but not quite grounded in the real world. The storyboard was very inspired by 80s MTV music videos, dive bars, social media excess and Mugler runways. Extra thanks to BFF Makeda Krish who is a brilliant hostess queen for our strange VR experience, the amazing Eve Tindall for making the headsets with her prop design skills, and Finn Boxer for a sick colour grade. Make sure to pay a visit to Bricks and Doña, too.”
