Our video of the day today comes from London’s beloved GHUM. Latest single ‘Some People’ – a post-punk belter with big Siouxsie and the Banshees vibes – comes with a hugely entertaining video which sees the GHUM gang as music biz suits, conducting X-Factor style auditions for a series of colourful characters, before eventually coming to the decision that they’ll just do the punkrocking themselves. Damn straight, GHUM, DIY forever!

“This song is about getting to know someone and having the fear of hurting them, because love has turned a bit hopeless and unexciting. Not trusting oneself to be able to love someone after not falling in love for a long time. We wanted to have a bit of fun with a video that was diverse and inclusive. Lydia [Garnett, the Director] has created a visual world where a fun, camp narrative plays out. Taking inspiration from 90’s pop videos, John Waters movies and the recent Spice Girls documentary series, she created a humorous, unpredictable, queer-friendly world for us to live in.”

Vocalist Laura Guerrero Lora

The single comes with an exciting announcement – that the band’s debut album, Bitter, is on its way from indie label Everything Sucks. Catch them live in Europe (dates below) this Spring, ahead of the album’s June launch. Pieced together from old, half-written songs and newly-written tracks, Bitter encapsulates the band’s current flavour.

“The style of the songs all taste like GHUM. We recognise it when we’re jamming. We know what we’re doing now. It’s strong and a bit aggressive, a bit melancholic. It’s like us.”
