I, Doris: It’s the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine) (2021 Edit) – video of the day

Our video of the day today comes from our own house band, London pioneers of mummycore kitchenpop I, Doris, with their take on REM’s classic ‘It’s the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)’. Updated for 2021, this version catalogues the dystopian shitshow we’ve all been living through the past couple of years.

The song is released as part of God Is In The TV’s compilation of REM covers – out today, and our album of the month – in aid of Help Musicians UK. The album has already gained general praise from REM, who’ve been tweeting about it all this week – the Dorisses are on tenterhooks to hear what Michael Stipe thinks of the reworked lyrics!

I, Doris are Doris, Doris, Doris, Doris, Doris and (occasionally) Doris. The specific bunch of Dorisses who recorded this song are: Lucy Morgan (vocals), Cassie Fox (vocals, bass, and lyrics), Louisa Edwards-Knight (drums, acoustic guitar, backing vocals) and Ciaran McNamee (electric guitar). The song was mixed and mastered by the awesome Jonathan Clayton at One Cat Studios (who also worked on our Reclaim These Streets single earlier this summer).

You can catch I, Doris live, of course, at LOUD WOMEN Fest on 18 Sept. Sources close to the band have learned that there is debate amongst the Dorisses as to whether this song should join their live repertoire – one Doris is very keen to play it live, but another Doris points out that it’s an absolute fucker of a tongue-twister to get all those lyrics out while you’re playing quite a tricky bass line, actually. If you want to find out who wins that particular debate, you’ll just have to come to LOUD WOMEN Fest!
