Today’s track of the day is from fast-rising Carmarthen sheroes, Adwaith – ‘Lan y Môr’, a fuzzy surf rock reimagining of the Cymraig folk song of the same name. (To save you Googling, it means ‘at the seaside’!)
Hollie Singer, the band’s guitarist and vocalist explains:
“The original inspiration for this song was the surf rock riff I came up with. We chose to use the lyrics to ‘Ar Lan y Môr’ as they fitted well with the vibe of the track. I’ve wanted to have a cover in the set for a little while now and this was so much fun to make completely our own”
The song was released 7 Feb especially for Welsh Music Day which we seem to have missed, ymddiheuriadau. But as Adwaith prove, every day is Welsh music day! The trio won the 2019 Welsh Music Prize and are heading off to SXSW next month, so expect to hear lots more from Adwaith this year.
