shitsick
Shitsick are coming to play at our Summer Party, along with Nova Twins and I, Doris, on 18 August at The Lexington – hurray! We asked them 10 questions to get to know them a bit better ...
1. Who would you most like to cover one of your songs?

Mykki Blanco would do a sick ‘Suck Sainsburys’, also The Slits covering ‘Punk Mums’

2. If you could add one member to your band – any person, living or dead, musical or otherwise – who would it be, and what would they play?
Catwoman on the keys.
3. What was the last song you wrote, where were you when you came up with the idea, what inspired it, and how did it turn out?
‘Punk Mums’ was our last completed song, but we’ve got more on the go. We usually get a hook or a chorus come to us from out of nowhere and then the rest of the song just needs following up. ‘Punk Mums’ started with us riffing and pushing the pram on the way to one of our gigs, then we finished the song on Venice Beach. It’s special to us and a fan favourite.
4. Which was your favourite gig you’ve a) played and b) watched?
a) Dublin Castle, autumn 2017. If you were there then you know, you know?

 b) Patti Smith or M.I.A – you feel the revolution brewing at their gigs.

5. Recommend a record you think our readers might not have heard of.
‘Run it Up’ – Mother Nature Barz. They’re a rap duo from Chicago – we met them in New York. They’re incredible and on a similar Loveolution wave to us!
6. What’s your best piece of advice for young musicians?
Do it for YOU initially. Grow it without an audience in mind. Then when you understand it, bring it out for the people.
7. Your top 3 most beloved albums ever – go.
The Slits – Cut
Lauryn Hill – The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill
Amy Winehouse – Frank
8. What are your musical goals?
To remind everyone that we are all capable of doing so much more than what we are getting up to at the moment. And to go platinum.
9. What’s the most important thing we need to know about you/your band right now?
See us live this summer for a sweat n’ scream off and get your hands on our ‘Dirty Demo’, there’s only a few left. We’ll be recording our first EP this autumn.
10. Give your top 5 contemporary bands/musicians.
1. Alessi’s Ark – the High Priestess Songstress
2. Wildhood – for the Psycho Jam
3. Onoe Caponoe – the Legend and Visionary
4. Anna Tosh – PJ Harvey/Sheryl Crow meets London Donnita
5. AYA – for Soulfood Sister Harmonies
