After blowing our minds with “Lead With My Bad Side”, Two Tonne Machete are back with Hold Up My Crown, a single that expands their sound without losing any of its power.
This time around, the North Wales band move into territory closer to modern hard rock, with echoes of classic rock, distortion-heavy guitars and dense, atmospheric production. The riffs are simple, heavy and instantly memorable, occasionally hinting at metalcore without ever fully crossing into it. The drums hit with real force, driving a broad, physical and deliberate rhythm.
While “Lead With My Bad Side” surged forward with garage-punk urgency, “Hold Up My Crown” settles into a slower, heavier pace. Rather than charging ahead, the song builds its power through groove and repetition, creating a tension you can feel throughout your whole body. The energy is there from the outset, but this time it comes from a slower, heavier rhythm that never loses any of its force.
The real star of the show, however, is Em. She is one of those singers who can convey authority with every line, making her voice the centre of the song and almost an instrument in its own right. Her delivery moves between invitation and challenge, with a controlled roughness that gives the track even more weight.
“Hold Up My Crown” is about consent, independence and finding pleasure on your own terms. It makes clear that nobody has the right to treat you like an object or make decisions for you. The crown in the title captures that perfectly: remaining in control of your body, your choices and your life.
Two Tonne Machete will release their debut EP in September and, after these two singles, we cannot wait to hear what else they have in store.
