Massachusetts-based alt-rock group Jennifer Tefft & The Strange release their first song of 2026 with ‘A Little More (Strange Version)’.
While Jennifer Tefft (vocals) and guitarist John Parrillo have been writing together since the mid-90s, they were joined by Stephen “Sharky” Beccia on Bass and Chris Jost on drums more recently, forming the band in 2024.
Starting strong with centre-stage drums and a guitar line that pre-empts the vocal melody, ‘A Little More’ quickly comes into its own. Typical of Tefft’s work, the song sticks to a homophonic texture with the vocals backed by a primarily chordal accompaniment.
Parrillo’s clever use of the guitar line transforms into new territory through the first verse, being used to emphasise key lyrics. However, the band show a heavy emphasis towards drum-led accompaniment with a dominance of rhythm throughout and use of drums in an almost melodic fashion.
Contrasting with the verses, the cry of ‘I need a little more’ is acapella, really driving home the message of the song.
“This song was written during a point in my relationship where I felt like it was too one-way. Where I really wanted ‘A Little More’ from my significant other — communication, time, emotion, etc. – but I was afraid to say it out loud. I think it is a pretty common theme in relationships.”
Jennifer Tefft & The Strange have delivered the smoothest grit in a moody track reminiscent of Paramore and the 00s pop-punk scene.
