Bay Area band Like Roses sings a siren call for forever emo kids young and old with new single, ‘Stuck’.
Recorded at Diver Down Studios ‘Stuck,’ keeps up a frantic pace reminiscent of early 2000s emo bands like Taking Back Sunday, and Mayday Parade. Like Roses nagging familiarity makes so much more sense when you realize ‘Stuck’ has been produced by former Taking Back Sunday guitarist/vocalist Fred Mascherino himself! With this elder emo stamp of approval, Like Roses is the answer and the solution for those of us staring nostalgia down the barrel while also being insanely thirsty for some fresh tunes.
With Amy Schmalkuche as lead singer/rhythm guitarist, Devin Zamora as Lead guitarist, & Kayla Gonzalez on bass, Like Roses ‘Stuck,’ invites you in and won’t let you out with subtle foreshadowing and steering notes.
‘Stuck,’ is a great example of how Like Roses has mastered the art form of making lyrics and sound can walk hand with neither overpowering the other. For me, that unplugged surprise at the end of the single was the cherry on top to a beautiful song that absolutely nailed those emotional hooks. Like Roses brings that fresh energy to all too familiar feelings with lyrics that have words bumping right into each other, showcasing an emotional spiral in real-time. When asked what inspired this song the band said,
“This song is about the nagging emptiness that follows loss,” explains the band. “You can take the pictures down, you can put the memories away in a drawer, but it’s not just that the room feels empty; you’re empty too.”
At this point, forever emo kids will tell you we will be empty…FOREVER. It’s nice to know that bands such as Like Roses are willing to still fill our empty cups to the brim. We can only hope that with the release of this new single, more new music and a summer tour schedule will be on the horizon soon.
