German-Brazilian musician and visual artist Gloria de Oliveira shares ‘Sacred Hearts’, taken from her upcoming album The Lying Swans, out 30 October via La Double Vie and Cargo Records.
Produced by Randall Dunn and featuring acclaimed American drummer Matt Chamberlain, ‘Sacred Hearts’ is a suspenseful, cinematic track that explores the tension between desire, devotion and fear.
“The Catholic image of Christ’s Sacred Heart – a heart literally engulfed in flames – has struck me since childhood. Of course it’s meant to symbolise God’s boundless and passionate love for mankind – however, as John Keats once wrote, ‘I am certain of nothing but of the holiness of the heart’s affections, and the truth of imagination’. And how does it feel to give yourself over to that affection and desire despite fear? With this song I was looking to capture these seemingly contrasting sentiments.”

The music video, shot and directed by award-winning Turkish filmmaker Seda Kaçak, stars London actress Mona Najma and was filmed in Hamburg’s iconic St. Pauli district, highlighting the bond between women.
