Utah-based indie pop songwriter Marley Guevara, aka Maz, announces her new EP Loveandpain, out 11 December via Winspear, and shares the title track.
A beautiful introduction to a personal EP, Maz discovered tapes of her late great-grandfather singing and playing guitar during the writing process. Inspired by the recordings, she sampled his guitar parts and found a way to bring him into the collaboration, years after his passing. Hypnotic vocals and shimmering, lush guitars create a dreamy oasis soundscape, with an addictive melody that lingers.
Guevara shares the following about the title track:
“Loveanpain was written with my great-grandfather’s ghost, drawing from his helpless romantic spirit. The song, to me, explores love and pain as two sides of the same coin, the deepest pain you’ve felt existing alongside the deepest joy and ultimately choosing to love fully, even when you know that love can hurt.”
