You can count on Glaswegians to show up on a Monday night to support their favourite artists, in this instance the girl on the moon, aka Chrissy Chlapecka. Chrissy’s trajectory has been stellar: she first gained notoriety through social media in 2019 for her short TikTok videos, before quickly owning the BimboTok trend and releasing her first single, ‘I’m so Hot’, in 2023. So when she announced her first UK tour in 2026, it was no surprise that fans responded to the star’s call.
At 8:50pm, anticipation built at Slay. With the band members in place, Chlapecka and her two dancers (Ally and Molly) walked onto the stage, wrapped in a pink satin cloak. Suddenly, it felt like we were about to begin a mystical ceremony. Chlapecka opened her set with ‘Brain High’, the crowd completely under her spell, singing along to every lyric. As the pop star shed her cloak, she revealed her sparkly outfit: her hyper-femininity was not for the male gaze. No. She had broken those patriarchal shackles a long time ago. Instead, she had claimed the title of Bimbo and helped popularise bimboism, embracing her body and aesthetic on her own terms, free from the judgement of others.
Her performance in Glasgow was just that: incredibly empowering, completely liberating, and utterly inclusive and supportive. On ‘Bitter with Your Spite’, for instance, she took a step back, sat down and let her dancers shine while performing a graceful choreography. There were a few quick costume changes, including during ‘Cherry Do You Love Me’, when Chlapecka popped on a cherry bra and a robe with feathered sleeves. Every piece of clothing reflected femininity and playfulness through sparkles, feathers and bedazzled details.
Chlapecka and her band performed a total of seventeen songs, including a few crowd favourites: ‘Clam Casino’, ‘Passionfruit’ and ‘I’m so Hot’, which concluded the show. Throughout the set, she teased the audience. In an Ariana Grande-esque voice, she asked her fans: “My voice is tired. Will you help me sing?” A few laughed in response. “I saw some of you laugh. I know. I still sound amazing.” She was oozing confidence, and it was contagious.
Sometimes, there is a danger to being an internet sensation, especially when audiences are quick to pigeonhole up-and-coming artists. And sometimes, when social media stars try to branch out, they fall flat. Chrissy Chlapecka didn’t live up to the hype that Monday night. It was very clear that she was the hype itself. A true multifaceted icon.
Earlier in the evening, after a few technical issues, the show had kicked off at 8:10pm with Slajer offering a high-energy opening act. Made up of two of Chlapecka’s band members, Slajer could be summed up as a pop tornado: they swept you up and made you dance to their own tunes and covers, including tracks by Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus. Both Slajer (vocals) and Molly (bass) had a playful chemistry: kneeling at each other’s feet, teasing each other and pulling off synchronised dance moves. The crowd was loving it.
