CA in LA

CA in LA, an alternative duo consisting of Courtney Birk and Ashleigh Coffelt, is based in Los Angeles, but their new single ‘Waking Up’ is a haunting autumnal soundtrack, leaving no trace of LA sunlight in it.

Released today, ‘Waking Up’ is a single from their upcoming album Hindsight: Deluxe Edition. The track reflects on the hard path of healing, where the protagonist comes to a realisation that “Self-destruction isn’t beauty”. Glacial vocals are laid over an alt rock instrumental, with guitars as relentless as a downpour, creating a clean track sonically reminiscent of Billie Eilish and Evanescence, if they were indie.

Birk and Coffelt explain the origins of the track:

“When working on new music for the Epilogue of our studio album, Hindsight, we took an honest look at ourselves. The truth was, we had a codependent relationship with alcohol. When we finally decided to get out of our own way, everything was so much clearer. ‘Waking Up’ addresses coming to terms with who we were and separating ourselves from comfortable destruction.”
