Written, produced, and mixed by Bee, ‘17’ looks back from the flames of the birthday cake at where the year led, shaped by overthinking, isolation, and the process of navigating life’s unexpected turns. ‘17’ reflects on viewing a turbulent youth with love and acknowledging growth, not through a lens of regret.
“17 was the year my brain learned to hurt itself. I was suddenly so aware of myself and everyone around me, and was completely living in my head. I think that year was the most I’ve ever stayed in my room. I had a few cannon events happen that I’d rather never revisit, even though I did write this song as a humble reminder. Though I’ve come a long way, I’ll always have love for myself at that age. I just wish I wasn’t such a sad 17-year-old, because so many things passed me by and I didn’t stop to take a look around at where I was instead of being in my head about everything.”
