Lambrini Girls @ Electric Brixton, 17.04.2025

Brighton’s Lambrini Girls are back with ‘Cult of Celebrity’, and it’s exactly the kind of furious, eye-rolling, say-it-out-loud energy you want from them right now. We first saw them tearing up LOUD WOMEN stages back in their early days, so watching them go from DIY upstarts to genuinely big-deal festival names has been…quite something.

The track doesn’t hang about. Phoebe Lunny sounds like she’s reached her limit and decided to broadcast it, while Selin Macieira’s bass drives the whole thing forward with intent. It’s direct, punchy, and makes its point without dressing anything up nicely.

Which is just as well, because lyrically they are not holding back. The band describe it as taking aim at “the dark underbelly and backdoor dealings of the world’s global elites”, before adding that said elites are “the devil incarnate…What a fucking surprise!” Honestly, fair.

Single of the week. Obvs.

What Lambrini Girls have always nailed is making anger feel communal rather than preachy. You’re not being lectured – you’re being invited to shout along.

And there are going to be plenty of places to do that. They’re heading out on a full North American tour this spring, alongside slots at big-name festivals including Coachella, Primavera, Bearded Theory, Dot To Dot, 2000 Trees and Boardmasters. They’re getting big, yes – but safe to say the celebrity isn’t going to their heads anytime soon.

Good. Let the rich feel a bit uncomfortable about it.
