Derry-based trio CHERYM team up with Glaswegians Uninvited to release ‘Sofa Bed’ just in time for cosy season.
Packed with ’90s and ’00s charm, the two bands have seamlessly combined their signature sounds to create an eclectic mix of Avril Lavigne and The Smashing Pumpkins. Essentially, take the raw edge of the former and the layering of the latter, then sprinkle in some unabashed gay commentary – you’ve got ‘Sofa Bed’.
CHERYM say:
“Sofabed is a song about coming to realise romantic feelings you may be having about someone you would consider a close friend, and never fully understanding the connection between the both of you. I feel like this type of situation is so common within the WLW community and is so much a part of the early sapphic experience.”
Following the release of their first critically acclaimed album in February 2024, the group has gone on to support the likes of Enter Shikari and Snow Patrol.
After a headline tour and appearances at festivals across the UK, CHERYM’s collaboration with 2020-formed BBC Radio 1 stars Uninvited has given us two singles that are a little bit of anarchy yet polished and marketable. Check out ‘Liar! (despise you), if you want more from the ensemble and keep an eye on CHERYM as they work on their second album.
