Bristol-based alt-rock singer-songwriter Elly Hopkins shares ‘Kintsugi’, the third single from her forthcoming debut EP Animal.
Inspired by the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold, ‘Kintsugi’ turns heartbreak into hope. Hopkins’ vocals are the gold that holds the track together right to the final note.
“I’ve always loved the metaphor of Kintsugi pottery, the idea of making something broken more beautiful in the repair. This song began with a painful heartbreak when I was quite young, but enough time has passed that it’s metabolised into something lighter. For me, this song is the most hopeful track on the EP. It says that pain doesn’t just scar us — it shapes us.”
