Opening with a vicious and ominous guitar riff, ‘Pale Horse’ is a darker iteration of B of Briz‘s creativity. Unlike the other singles released in anticipation of her upcoming EP, Solace, the sound of this song is warped and unsettling. The lyrics reference the biblical arrival of death while painting a picture not often seen when discussing the topic. There isn’t fear here. There is acceptance, awareness, joy, and love in this song. A letter to death saying that it is not accepting defeat, but a testament to living.
The looping beat has a galloping cadence that evokes the image of the pale horse’s movements, the guitar it’s rearing form on the horizon, the keyboard our stumbling movements in it’s presence.

Meanwhile I’ve been giving of myself, however imperfectly and fleetingly and incompletely, and when the horses’ rider greets me, I’ll make him understand. He can never defeat me, never unseat me.”
The way Briz speaks tells us that there is time, until our very last moment, to live a life we’re proud of. Time to change from this isolating and terrifying path. All we have to do is show up wholeheartedly, even if it’s imperfectly, for each other. That trying is what eases the path to the end and makes everything worthwhile.
