Bristol’s loudest punk provocateurs The Menstrual Cramps are at it again, unapologetically ripping through patriarchal control of wombs with their latest single, ‘Abortion’ – our single of the week. Out today under their shiny new label home, Alcopop! Records, this track is a defiant and timely middle finger to archaic abortion regulations.

Vocalist Emilia Elfrida’s unfiltered battle cry drives the song, inspired by the overturn of Roe v Wade in America and the persisting restrictions on abortion rights. In their own words,

“I’ve had an abortion, no I’ve had two, if you don’t like it, then f*ck you.”

The Menstrual Cramps have always been rebels with a cause, and ‘Abortion’ follows the political punch of their previous release, ‘Body Politics‘. The band’s commitment to challenging the status quo is evident not only in their lyrics but also in their energetic sound. The raw, unapologetic punk spirit that has defined their music since their debut resonates powerfully in this new single.

The Menstrual Cramps’ journey from a bedroom in Bristol to the forefront of punk activism is a testament to their resilience. ‘Abortion’ is not just a song; it’s a fearless statement that challenges taboos surrounding abortion and encourages open dialogue. Emilia Elfrida’s vocals, sharp and unyielding, cut through the noise, demanding attention to an issue that society often sweeps under the rug.

As they gear up for a series of live dates in 2024, including appearances at Manchester Punk Festival, Outer Town Festival, and 2000 Trees Festival, The Menstrual Cramps show no signs of toning down their ferocity. The live experience promises to be an electrifying extension of their rebellious ethos, a chance for fans to join the band in breaking down barriers and fighting for the right to choose.

The Menstrual Cramps are not just a punk band; they are a force for change. ‘Abortion’ is a battle cry, a call to arms, and a reminder that punk, at its core, has always been about challenging the establishment. In the face of adversity, The Menstrual Cramps proudly declare: they’re still here, and they’re not taking anyone’s sh*t.

For those ready to join the rebellion, catch The Menstrual Cramps live at one of their upcoming dates and experience the unbridled energy of a band that refuses to be silenced.
