Gaygirl: Mikkel – Humpday Hymn

It’s Wednesday, so time for a Humpday Hymn – and this one is is a new belter from South London’s Gaygirl – ‘Mikkel’ – out today, ahead of debut EP Pleasurehead, due for release 24 April on Permanent Creeps records. Singer Bex says of the single:

“Mikkel compares the desperate feelings of confusion at the end of a relationship with a seemingly disastrous tea party amongst bad company. The track came together as a band and we knew early on that it would be a song that doesn’t achieve the resolution you would expect – the unresolved building feeling throughout mirrors the lyrical content of covering up feelings and not addressing problems.”

Catch Gaygirl live:

March 19th // LONDON, Sebright Arms

March 20th // BRIGHTON, The Hope & Ruin

Viqueen: Sinking Like a Stone – humpday hymn

Our #HumpdayHymn for this wonderful Wednesday comes from San Francisco’s delicious Viqueen – Sinking Like a Stone. Turn this up to 12 and power through to the weekend.

VIQUEEN (VY-kween, like viking) is an all-female powerhouse featuring heavy sound and thoughtful melodies. While based out of San Francisco and Portland, Maine, their roots are widespread. The conglomeration of backgrounds results in a unique sound that highlights elements of East Coast Metal, Americana, and the Riotgrrrl movement.
