Musically, The Dixie Chicks are a delight to listen to. Maine’s Texas accent makes her storytelling feel authentic as well as being capable of beautiful harmonies with her bandmates that make songs such as When You Were Mine and Travellin’ Soldier bring a tear to your eye. The lyrical skill in telling so many stories of love, loss and redemption is palpable across their back catalogue which is varied and numerous. Vagabon is a multi-instrumentalist and uses every instrument, every sound to layer up and create a sound that is not only unique but also that draws you in. While she seems to promote freedom, there is also this scary feeling in what she is vocalizing while the bossy bass sounds are fluctuating and creating an ambient sound that resembles underwater soundscape. This album sounds like it is more about the process of making art, than anything else, especially making art in an alienating space.
